Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

 * Insert audio CD
 * track list, album art etc appear correctly
 * click "Play" button
 * CD spins up
 * no audio
 * "Playback Error: Unable to start playback pipeline" dialog appears

The same CD played correctly via Rhythmbox about an hour ago, no software or hardware changes since. I've tried exiting and restarting Rhythmbox, and reinserting the CD, with identical results.

Firstly, the program played back well the music files automatically imported and without any problems. But I after I have changed the source folders and imported the music files on my own the problem occured. I have no idea, whether this comment could help the person who tries to patch this error, but I hope it does.
Kind regards, Andinski

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We have a new rhythmbox version in Lucid. If you could test this bug in the new version, this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs relevant for this particular issue so it can be reported to the developers of the software.

This has been reproducible with rhythmbox-0.12.5 using the following procedure:

1) Put a CD in the drive, let rhythmbox detect the CD, and start playback
2) Pause the music
3) Eject the CD (from the rhythmbox eject button)
4) Reinsert the same CD in the drive, and let rhythmbox detect it
5) Start playback

This sequence consistently reproduces the inability to play music, and is often accompanied by unusual failure dialog boxes, or rhythmbox hangs/crashes. I have attached a full thread backtrace of the process after it was in a crashed state.

I am not prepared to upgrade the entire system to lucid at this time, but I did attempt to install a more recent version: rhythmbox-0.12.7 from a source tarball. After pulling in numerous devel dependencies I was able to get it configured, but it broke attempting to make with the following error.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version.Thanks in advance.
