Bug Description

Tried Openshot on 32bit Karmic. It runs fine, but when I play a video it gets all squished up into the top of the video preview. It does not meter witch kind of video clip I Import.

I used last update of Openshot - 0.9.53. I insalled it via experimental PPA

We are trying to get to the bottom of this with the MLT team - it seems to be a MLT problem that only affects 32 bit installations.

Here is an update from Dan (from the MLT project):
"I reproduced this problem in VirtualBox. It appears to be a bug
related to SDL v1.2.13 and some X server drivers. I could reproduce
the problem as well when building SDL 1.2.13 from source tarball.
However, when building SDL v1.2.14 from source tarball, there is no
problem. The solution seems to be to require 1.2.14 as my experiments
shows no simple workaround."

So... this doesn't look like an "easy-to-fix" issue. Users would have to manually upgrade SDL to version 1.2.14, which doesn't sound fun. Not every 32 bit install of Ubuntu 9.10 has this issue though. It seems to be a minority of 32 bit users... at least I hope. =)

There is an updated SDL version 1.2.14 in a PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~dnjl/+archive/games

This PPA is nothing to do with Openshot, but they have the fixed version of SDL, if you want to try that. There are other packages in the PPA, so you should be careful what gets installed, and uninstalled.

But this is the version of SDL needed to fix the issue (this version will also be shipping in Lucid.

I have tried the updated version of SDL from the PPA and it works fine on a virtual Karmic install that previously had the same squished up video problem.

I had the same problem with a green screen and squashed output in the preview window. Using an updated libsdl fixd the problem. Thanks for the fix!
