Bug Description

Apologies if the information collected by the Bug report process is not applicable. I'm a bit new to this.

Problem: I found that when receiving TIF files the page orientation is wrong although the contents of the page is still in the right orientation. This has primarily to do with receiving files from Fax-to-email services. My thought was that it has something to do with the fax service and I have changed the file format to PDF, resolving my issue.
I then received Tif files as an e-mail attachment and discover that I have the same problem. Let me try to describe the issue:

A Portrait page will show as Landscape although the writing on the page did not change its orientation. Printing the page result in a portrait page with a small landscape image of the original text.

Hope this makes sense to any-one. Looking forward to any help.

It happens in all my graphics programs.

Ubuntu 7.04 - 9.1

Could you upload some test files here so we can reproduce your bug ?
Maybe you could upload a portrait and a landscape tiff file ?

Actually, some apps are rendering correctly, and some aren't. Buggy apps are :
gimp, eog (aka gnome image viewer), f-spot and MS Paint

You shouldn't use eog or f-spot to read this file, since there are showing only the first page of your multi-page document.

Apps you can use to see this documents correctly are :
evince and okular (MS viewer renders the same way, but shows only the first page).

Gimp open your doc like a multipage, but image dimensions are inverted. Since gimp depends on libtiff4, I assume the issue comes from there.

Thanks Ludwin,

I'll try the apps mentioned. I do currently use GIMP, F-SPOT and normal image viewer.

Okular is a no-go. Only open 1 page with wrong dimentions

evince shows in Synaptic Package Manager as installed but I don't see it or have an option to use it to open graphic files

Weird: I could open the tiff above: I can see 12 pages in portrait mode. I have kubuntu 9.10.

evince's name may be "document viewer" in gnome's menus. At least you can alt-f2 and write "evince" enter

OK Document viewer I have, also show file "landscape".

I'll remove all my graphics apps and then start to add them 1 by 1 to test.

Apologies, Document viewer does show 12 pages of the 12 page file above and the orientation is correct. It is image viewer that is showing it wrongly.

One other thing, If my folder is in Icon view, the tif file show wrongly but if I right-click on it and use document viewer it opens fine.

Just tried the example TIF file with my 10.04 LTS box and it appears to be correct in icon view, eog, and gimp.

Can we consider this fixed now?
