Changing max_sectors_kb doesn't seems to help either

@arky -- could you try the latest 2.6.32-4.5 kernel. There was some breakage with devices which claimed to offer 'enhanced' USB status but then failed to actually provide that status when asked for it, leading to reset loops such as this. Please report back here. Thanks!

@Andy, tested with the latest kernel package ( 2.6.32-5-generic ) . It has the same problem.

@arky -- yet another dollop of updates from upstream hit in the lucid 2.6.32-7.10 kernel, could you retest there for me. Also could you test the 2.6.32 mainline kernel and report on that too. This kernle can be found in the mainline kernel archive at the URL below:

In 2.6.32-6-generic it taken worse shape, all usb removable drives don't work at all

Looks like I have the same problem. I have upgraded to Lucid Beta 1 recently, after that my external USB HDD has stopped working. Other USB drives works fine though. My dmesg output is very similar to what is reported in this bug (see attachement).

I'm now running 2.6.32-20 and it's still an issue. Is this slated to be fixed upstream? Is there a certain patch we can watch for?

I have the same problem, but only since installing 10.04. This is a serious issue! Why is it /still/ unassigned?
