Impossible to add new MSN contact

Binary package hint: empathy

When adding a new MSN contact to the list, as soon as I stop writing anything for about 2 seconds, Empathy replaces everything with my own contact information making it impossible to add any other contact.

** What's expected to happen **
Enter the new contact's information like email address, alias (nickname) and eventually a group.

** What happens instead **
Empathy replaces all the information with my own information (email, nick and group) after 2 seconds when not writing anything.

Thanks for taking time to report this bug and help make ubuntu better. Do you still face this issue? if yes can you please try to install the development release of empathy from this ppa https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa or If you can try to reproduce this bug in Lucid beta1 thanks alot for the bug report.

The steps to reproduce the issue with me are exactly the ones described in the Bug Description.

Chat menu, add contact, account msn, in the identifier field I type the e-mail address of a friend, hit tab or click anywhere, his e-mail address gets replaced with mine after a couple of seconds.

I can confirm it also happens in 2.30.1 from PPA provided.

I set up my account on Empathy today and encountered the same problem. Also 10.04.

Same thing happens if someone else sends me an invite to add them to my contact list. The sender on the invite is my own address, not the one from the contact.

OK, i was just making sure that this wasn't anything new. It seems to only be happening with the PPA though, so if you can, use the empathy provided in the ubuntu repositories for now. The upstream report could use some more information from those experiencing the PPA issues.

In the debug dlaiog i get different logs whether i open it before or after trying to add a contact:
for example this is only shown if the dialog is opened _after_ trying:
contact_widget_got_contact_cb: Error: Connection manager :1.102 is broken: contact #16 identifier changed from <email address hidden> to [e-mail]
while this is shown only if the dialog was opened before (its the only thing thats displayed too):

Now after reboot i can no longer reproduce the bug. I experienced the bug on an up-to-date Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 install with empathy 2.30.2 - so the bug is still not fixed and will probably stay there until someone figures out how to reproduce it for sure, and whats causing it.

This very bug has been affecting me as well (and has been annoying enough to me to motivate me to create a launchpad account just to complain). I'm using the Empathy 2.30.2 client that came with my Ubuntu 10.04 install. Like Jan, I've found that the bug doesn't manifest itself all the time, but for me, it seems to be in effect the vast majority of the time.

I'm disappointed that this bug has been closed, since it seems to still be an issue, and an annoying one at that. If there's any "further information" I can provide, I'd be happy to.

This bug also happens to me, and it happens all the time. I have now my own contact in my contact list and can't remove it. Here is my butterfly log. I cleared it before reproducing the bug, so it's the first lines that refer to the bug.
