Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

When moving to another place with another known network, network manager tries to connect, and if it is not able to quickly connect, it deletes the password in the password field. To connect to that network you have to enter in nm-applet, fill the sudo key, and fill the password in the nm-applet field that appears empty.

Excuse me, what do you mean by "enter in nm-applet, fill the sudo key"? I see no way of filling in "sudo key" (btw, what is it?) in nm-applet, and when it loses passphrases, they simply cannot be entered again because "Apply" button remains inactive

When the "Avaliable to all users" checkbox is checked, the NM applet ask
you for the superuser key.
Many times, but not always, when you go to the "Wireless Security"
section, there are no password there, only a blank edit box.
Opposite to this, the file in "/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/"
that corresponds to that connection has the key in it,
but is not used.

This happens to me as well, with my network which is set to be "available to all users". Whenever the association with my router fails for any reason (temporary radio interference, for example, or the router is in the process of rebooting). Network manager sets its state to disconnected and refuses to try to reconnect to my network. My network is shown in the dropdown list, but clicking on it just causes nm to pop up the "disconnected" notification immediately.

The only way I have found to reconnect to my network, once this has happened, is to go into the connection editor and re-enter the WPA passphrase. When I go to re-enter the passphrase, I find the "password" box empty.

Failure to connect using the saved password should not cause NM to forget that password.
