Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi

Ubuntu karmic support for the samsung nc10 netbook is spotty at best. Already I have to use an alternate repository in order to get resume, backlight, etc working correctly deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/voria/ppa/ubuntu karmic main). This repo has not provided a backlight package for the newest kernel yet 2.6.31-15 so now when ubuntu boots the backlight is automatically off and the gnome brightness control disabled as well as the Fn+up down keys no longer work. If ubuntu wants to push win7 off the netbooks it really does need to support very common netbooks like the samsung nc10 much better out of the box (without needing seperate repos to maintain basic netbook functionality).

Ok I found a solution after all for this problem that does not require the backlight package update from the extra repo. The problem is partially caused by the Samsung Update software in windows being so crappy. It did not flag that there is a new bios update (11CA date released 10/22/09) that can be downloaded at the samsung website (have to run under windows). This fixes the backlight issue but alas now I can't resume after a suspend with the new kernel. I will submit seperate bug for this.
