Bug Description

Binary package hint: adept

When a user logs in, the green adept notifier icon appears for a second before vanishing. This seems to be bad behaviour as adept notifier is hidden by default, and most users will not know what the green icon is because they have never seen it before. The Adept Notifier icon should be hidden completely and not appear like this on login.

I've noticed that this only seems to happen when I have session restore enabled and a lot of programs start up with the session.

I can confirm that this happened to me at times too, on Dapper.

I haven't seen it yet this far on Edgy, but I know I don't have many programs that launch upon startup. Do you not want the green, everything is good, icon to show up at all then?

Exactly. No news is good news.

By the way, it would be nice not to have the icon when the packages
are kept back (and thus will not be installed by default), but I
suppose this is a quite different story. Why do we get them in the
lists at all if they are kept back?

I have saved my session, and now what I have in edgy is an empty place in the notification area, i.e. a grey area of the dimensions of the green sphere :) and the green sphere floating on my desktop like a normal window, and uncloseable. I am using beryl but I don't think this is the problem, since all other applications in the notification area are working.

I have the same problem told by Vincenzo in the commentary above. Iḿ using Beryl in Kubuntu Edgy Eft and icon of adept notifier don't stand in the systray. If I kill the adept notifier e start it again it will be hidden, but the empty space in the systray remains. If the systray is chaged, like to add/remove another icon, the apedt notifier icon will be pushed off the systray. As Vincenzo said the bug is in adept, since all other applications don't behave like that.

Maybe the problem isn't adept notifier. Just about to happen the same thing with amarok, the icon do not stay in the systray. The adept notifier was hidden as expected, but any other icons was not accepted in the systray. May be this error was caused by Beryl.

The icon gets its own window bug is a beryl problem.

Does anybody have the green icon appearing in the system tray on login in Edgy or Feisty without beryl?

I've run both Edgy and Feisty w/o Beryl and had no problems such as this bug is reporting.... I would suggest you close it as it is a Beryl problem.
I've noticed that I've had this problem w/ Beryl and other programs.

I think it`s an Adept Notifier bug since no other apps behave like that when I start Compiz, but Adept Notifier, and It happens randomly, but only to Adept Notifier

I can confirm this bug for the latest Compiz Fusion on Feisty, too. I've seen it on several different computers. The adept notifier appears in a seperate small windows which is not closable. Only killing the process helps.

Same problem with Kubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) and Compiz-fusion... I have an Nvidia 8600 GT 256MB graphics card, a card which came up several times at Bug #131013. This is an important bug to fix but it also affect the power manager "battery" tray item in addition to the notifier.
