Bug Description
Binary package hint: xorg
I have two monitors and use 'Separate X screen' mode.
So, I could no longer bring up the terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 with 'Separate X screen'.
Works perfect when use 'Disabled' mode.
Not tried 'TwinView' mode.

i had the same issue .. so can't remember the fix actually ... but could u try to change ur boot process,
so, change /etc/default/grub to:
------- ------start- ------- ----- TIMEOUT= 0 TIMEOUT_ QUIET=true R=`lsb_ release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` LINUX_DEFAULT= "" LINUX=" "
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
#GRUB_HIDDEN_
GRUB_HIDDEN_
GRUB_TIMEOUT="10"
GRUB_DISTRIBUTO
GRUB_CMDLINE_
GRUB_CMDLINE_
# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only) console
#GRUB_TERMINAL=
# The resolution used on graphical terminal 640x480
# note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
# you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
#GRUB_GFXMODE=
# Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux LINUX_UUID= true
#GRUB_DISABLE_
# Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entrys LINUX_RECOVERY= "true" ------- --end-- ------- -----
#GRUB_DISABLE_
-------
and run
$ sudo update-grub
i think that the main idea is to remove 'splash' from LINUX_DEFAULT= "quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_
(also try to remove 'quiet')
