Bug Description

At a certain point in time the power off and restart buttons disappeared form the shutdown menu. Don't know when or how. Only buttons left are log off, switch user, lock screen and hibernate. How do I get those back? Pressing the power off button does'n do the job. It will be very nice to have them back. Thanks for your help.

This is not the same problem I was talking about. I was talking about the problem with gnome power manager icon which appears in the gnome taskbar (where the time is displayed)

You may try this :

sudo sed -i "s/SystemMenu=false/SystemMenu=true/" /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf
sudo sed -i "s/SystemMenu=false/SystemMenu=true/" /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf-custom

I have the same problem on an Acer Aspire 3200 Laptop. I think the failure occured after setting up the power manager relating to the Laptop-lid.

What version of Ubuntu do you use? From what dialog do you speak? The session one? The GNOME upstream one? The Ubuntu dialog has no time displayed. How do you open it?

I have the same problem. No reboot or power down. Even the blue "reboot needed" icon that sometimes appears after an update won't reboot the computer, it just logs me out.

Edgy/AMD64, updated ala apt-get dist-upgrade from a dapper install. Seems like a permissions thing?

do you have those options from gdm? What does "gdmflexiserver -a -c QUERY_LOGOUT_ACTION" print for you?

Actually, it seems my problem was that the "show actions menu" option in administration/log-in window wasn't checked. Also, I am dum.

Thank you for the update. Do other people still have that issue? Do you have that setting value too?

This is no bug... im a total newbie by the way but figured out that is not a bug... at the login window in the menu bar section, make sure to check view actions or you wont have the logout reboot options... once i did this it all came back...
