Bug Description

Binary package hint: mediatomb

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.10 (it's actually mythbuntu)
Release: 9.10

2) The version of the package you are using:
$ apt-cache policy mediatomb
mediatomb:
  Installed: 0.12.0~svn2018-4ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.12.0~svn2018-4ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.12.0~svn2018-4ubuntu1 0
        500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen:
With ffmpegthumbnailer turned on I expect it to generate thumbnails without causing any odd behaviour.

4) What happened instead:
Browsing large libraries via Playstation 3 seems to cause mediatomb's Memory and CPU usage to be excessive (CPU=197%, Mem=33.6%), I don't know where the problem lies but after a while of generating thumbnails in a folder with 400+ videos (mostly mp4's converted from DVD) the mem usage continually rises and cpu is at 190+% (Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66GHz), which causes TV and Video playback in MythTV to be jerky and slow.

33.6% Memory usage to generate a bunch of 128px thumbnails seems way over the top to me, 33.6% of 4gb is about 1300mb, with thumbnail's turned off it's using around 11mb, 35mb when streaming a 8gb M2TS.

See attached log for more detailed memory usage.

I've checked the mediatomb log's and there doesn't seem to be anything interesting in there, apart from a few warnings about thumbs.db files being corrupt, I'll delete those and see if the same problems occur, I suspect they will, because the problem's happen in folder's with lot's of video's.

One question I have to ask is why is mediatomb 0.12 svn in the repositories of a LTS release of Ubuntu, shouldn't the 0.11 official release have been kept?
