Is there a /etc/ldap/schema/core.ldif on your system?

I encountered the same error on karmic. Following this user guide:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1313472

The error appears after step 1: apt-get -y install slapd ldap-utils

The /etc/ldap/scheme directory is empty. To resolve, I copied the .ldif files from another machine. However, I have other errors at present which prevent me from completing the installation.
