Actually, it is not a problem about awaking from hibernation or sleep mode. In my case, it is re-starting the computer (say, after an update, or just to boot out from Linux in order to boot into a different operating system).

I am at the moment engaged in configuring new Dell Optiplex 760 machines. I render my machines as dual boot systems: Microsoft Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu 9.10

All of them manifest the same problem: Getting out of Ubuntu 9.10 by clicking on "restart". The computer apparently exits the graphics environment, and the Ubuntu screen is replaced by a black screen with a blinking vertical cursor at the top left corner of the monitor. Even a full hour wait did not bring the bios start-up screen. Could the problem lie in the graphics card? I have in my systems the ATI Radeon HD 3450.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed (dual boot) on a Fujitsu-Siemens (Esprimo) running Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and here, I have no difficulty restarting (warm reboot) Karmic Koala.

Hi hellboy,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 476294

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
