Thanks for your bugreport and sorry for the trouble you have.

Here is the error:
...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libpython2.6:^M
 libpython2.6 depends on python2.6 (= 2.6.4-0ubuntu2); however:^M
  Package python2.6 is not configured yet.^M
dpkg: error processing libpython2.6 (--configure):^M

Could you please open a terminal and run:
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
$ sudo apt-get install -f

and let me know what that outputs?

Changed in update-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium
summary: - upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 failed
+ upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 failed (ordering problem)?

Could you please also attach the files in /var/backup/dpkg.status* ? I would love to be able to reproduce this and those files should help.

Thanks for investigating. I was able to complete the upgrade by going into the update-manager and doing a partial upgrade. It seems to have completed successfully. I may have lost some information about the packages state since those commands return minimal information:

tim@argon:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
[sudo] password for tim:
tim@argon:~$ sudo apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

I am attaching /var/backups/dpkg.status*

Tim

Setting to Invalid as the original reporter resolved their issue and did not provide the necessary information to debug this further.
