Bug Description

Ran Dapper update from 5.10 and now boot hangs on installing drivers. Recovery boot shows the boot hangs at IPv6 over IPv4 Tunneling Driver. After this the boot hangs at starting HAL. Eventullay the login comes up but then the error failed to initialize HAL will appear after logging in. Kerrnel 2.6.15-23-386 on an Acer that worked great with 5.10.

Thanks for your report!

Can you attach the output from dmesg, or any other details to help debug this problem? It sounds like a kernel issue, but without more information it will be hard to diagnose.

I have the same issue, and it has been an issue throughout the lifetime of this Dapper installation on my Dell Dimension.

I suspect this issue will also disguise itself on launchpad, as the various 'loading hardware drivers' hangs, since it takes removing 'quiet' from the kernel command string, to see exactly where the hang is.

It's an intermittent error, and for me the failing pattern is something like this:

Normally the machine boots fine, for every 10 boots or so, for no appearent reason, the booting hangs at 'IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling driver'. It then hangs there, and then finally times out after about 3 minutes or so. Subsequently HAL usually barfs when starting, but the desktop manages to come up still.

This was not an issue with Breezy on the same machine.

Following is my dmesg output. I can supply you with any output you'd like:
