Bug Description
Updated November 11, 2009:
This bug seems to affect computers with an Intel video card. Server and desktop installations.
When the computer is run without a monitor, or the monitor is put to sleep (NOT blanked), the system will lock up after ~10 minutes. The only way to restart the computer is to use the REISUB Magic Keys or to hold down the power button until the system halts. (The latter is the only solution for a server installation running without a keyboard).
Adding nomodeset to the boot line or disabling monitor sleep seems to fix the issue.

It appears that disabling kernel modesetting with 'nomodeset' will stop the crash from happening.

I am having a similar problem with the desktop edition. It appears to lock up when the monitor is put to sleep by power management after inactivity. I am forced to reboot using alt+sysreq REISUB. My current solution has been to disable the monitor sleep feature and that has appeared to fix it. Not a huge deal, but annoying.
airencracken (mjhildum) wrote : | #35 |
Adding the nomodeset option to the boot seems to have fixed the problem for me. Still a bit of a kludge though.

I'm not sure which package to point this bug to. I figure it's either xserver- xorg-video- intel or linux-headers- 2.6.31- 14(generic? ) since both packages seem to deal with Intel card drivers.
