Flash card reader only works with some SD cards

Bug Description
I have an internal flash card reader that can read SD cards. Some cards work without any problem but others are not recognized at all. I know there is no hardware problem because if I boot into Windows they can all be read and the cards work in other laptops too.
When I insert a card that cannot be read I get the following messages in /var/log/kern.log:
