Bug Description

Binary package hint: gwibber

This may sound a little ambiguous, but I find Gwibber (especially 2.0.0) too heavy. If I remember correctly, even if the older version had less features, I had a more pleasurable experience with it because it's not as slow.

This may require a lot of tweaking and not everyone may agree, but as a microblogger, I want my Twitter/Identi.ca client to be light and fast. My objective is to send and receive short messages. Taking a little too much time to do those little tasks slows me down. Too bad I don't have good alternatives because Adobe Air isn't smooth here and I don't want to run and install KDE components just for Choqok.

Gwibber is a great app. I don't exactly know how this problem can be resolved but it needs some trimming/optimizing.

While this is not a terribly accurate test:

david@sagan:~$ time gwibber -v -d

This is measured from start up till gwibber is rendered on the screen with posts. Nearly 9 seconds isn't good enough, I am sure we can do better.

The actual bug report about gwibber being non responsive has been fixed in the development release of gwiiber. as far as taking time to start is concerned please open a separate bug report.

I think this is true today with Gwibber 3.0.0.1 on Ubuntu 11.04. Gwibber takes approx. 2 - 3 minutes to load and when I try to open Gwibber from the messaging indicator, it takes so long that I'm not sure if it crashed or if its still working (no mouse busy shown either).

This bug should be marked Confirmed. The main window takes ~2-3s to load while Firefox opens with 10 tabs instantly.
