Network connect/disconnect status message black box shows up too low

Bug Description

The fuzzy black box which tells me when I've connected or disconnect from a network appears about a fourth of the way down my screen, rather than flush with the top panel. It covers up my workspace here, rather than being unobtrusive.

Shows the placement of network manager's and battery's status update box - it's too low. Edit (54.2 KiB, image/png)

I've attached a file showing the placement on my 1024x576 screen, though this also occurs on my office machines which are ~1920x1200.
