Bug Description

When clicking on Empathy in the drop down I should be able to see the contact list right a way. Instead it just highlights in the the application at the bottom of the screen.

Confirming this bug.

When selecting empathy or a conversation in indicator-applet, the window is opened (if not already open) and it is highlighted in the taskbar, but is not focussed and not in the foreground. This worked correctly with pidgin in jaunty.

Running Karmic 64bit.

To reproduce:
1. Click the close window control in the upper right corner to close Empathy window.
2. Click in some other application window such as Firefox.
3. Choose Empathy from the indicator-applet menu.
4. The Empathy Contact List will be displayed but will not be brought to the front and focused.

I can also confirm. I have seen this problem with Metacity as the window mgr; not sure if it also occurs with Compiz, or not.

I can also confirm. I get the same problem with Compiz enabled, although I don't think it has anything to do with that.
But it is pretty annoying. Thanks to all! Keep up the good work guys!

This looks like a dup of bug 372108 to me - does that bug seem the same to you (except that it refers to pidgin not empathy) ?

I confirm this bug as well, on 9.10 Netbook Remix. What's more, if I have an unread IM, I can see so in the drop-down list, and when I click it, the IM window is generated, but remains in the background just as the buddy list does.

Quite annoying.

Only faults on a fresh instance of the window over which you try to open the
contact list. If you maximize after the first fault over, say, the Firefox's
window it focuses correctly and then obviously loses the focus again as soon
you change to some other window. More clearly :
1. Open FF
2. select Empathy from Indicator-Applet
3. focus it over FF, maximizing from the taskbar
4. close it and open it again from the I-A
It focuses fine.
