Bug Description

Not a bug rather quite the opposite

Sillub created an Open Registration to enable Full Feature Activation for all using XTrkCad (Name: Open Registration; Key: 248890010702),

Secondly they have released it as Open Source and established a project at SourceForge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/xtrkcad/) where you can download the source code.

There has been no development since the current release 3.1.4-1 so you still have to use the Open Registration details.

*** Are there any plans to compile a 64 bit debian (k)ubuntu version? ***

You can download the latest source on Linux by

cvs -d:pserver:<email address hidden>:/cvsroot/xtrkcad co xtrkcad
cd xtrkcad
make
cd lib
export XTRKCADLIB=`pwd`
cd ../bin
./xtrkcad

See the README file in the toplevel directory for the current state.

The package is basically 'just' an x86 only binary. Though, in ubuntu,
we have all of its dependencies compiled for 32bit in the package
ia32-libs. So it should be possible to run xtrkcad on amd64 without
chroot (because we have all libs compiled for 32bit).

Though, this solution is way from optimal, since there is a report in
the debian bts, #318369, that this software eventually became free
software, with a repo at sourceforge.net

I did a quick checkout of the repo there, and indeed found some source
there. But it seemed to be mostly abandoned software, the build system
is in a unsatisfactorily state and needs much work.

So unless somebody doesn't really do some work on the upstream side on
this, I fear that this software is not going to be developed any
further, sadly :(

Hello,
If I understand correctly you wish to have this package included in Kubuntu ? Please see this wiki, <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/Candidates/Kubuntu> which has more information about packages in Kubuntu.
Please let us know if this bug report may be closed. Thanks !

I think what the original reporter wanted to say is that xtrkcad is now a free software with a GPL license. Until now, it wasn't and that's most probably why it is in multiverse in Ubuntu. When the package in Ubuntu will be syncronized with the current version in Debian (xtrkcad/20060415-1), after Dapper's release, we should be able to move this package from multiverse to universe.

Hi Bdale

Pleae note that the Active group for XtrkCAD has moved due
to lack of co-operation and/or interest by Sillub
Technologies.

It is now headed up by Jonathan Bayer and Martin Fischer
Homepage: http://xtrkcad-fork.sourceforge.net/
Project: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xtrkcad-fork/

The last release is marked in a CVS folder v4.0.0 and some
of the updates are 4 weeks old.

In order to align with the current development a re-release
with the correct version, current updates and bug fixes is
requested.

I am not sure if the package description should reference
Silub any more (they are noted in the credits of the
program itself). It should simply be "XtrkCad Model Train
RailRoad Track Planning CAD Software".

Edgy now has 20060529-1. So due to its new license, it can now be moved from multiverse to universe (in Debian it was moved from non-free to main)

Please can this be updated in the packages lists.
I see that the latest files are physicaly in the ubuntu repositories, but not listed in the packages files.
It can be forced installed, but thats not ideal. I broke my system twice in the attempt.

I don't think it needs to be included in the basic installation or CD!
The issue is updating the package entry to refer to the new open source project, update the description and the latest version to be included in the packages files.
