Movie playter fails to play dvds

This is netbook remix. Ubuntu 9.10. Upgraded brasero to 2.28.2. Both before and after upgrade Movie Player reports "Could not open location. You may be have permission...". Movie player is 2.28.1

466389 seems to be the closest - it matches my symptoms at least in part. Although for me it is all dvds, not only those without menus.

I note I cannot play dvds in vlc either, unlike 469603
