Bug Description

Binary package hint: mysql-client-5.1

Pressing Delete, PG Up, or PG Dn in mysql-client echoes a tilde (~) instead of the expected deletion action. This behavior does not happen in other client programs as Python, r, or the Bash shell itself.

Ubuntu karmic 9.10
mysql-client-5.1

English/USA international (with dead keys) or English/USA

To solve this bug, install the program rlwrapp (for more information: man rlwrap)

sudo apt-get install rlwrap

and add that before the mysql command, example:

rlwrap-a mysql -u root -p

Enjoy :D
