sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload fixed the sound problem for one session. It needed to be called again for each session for sound to work

until now i know my audio card is recognized using the aplay -l and lspci -v commands.

Im testing others ways to fix sound, hoping for a permanente fix. I will come back later if i find a better way

Please deinstall sl-modem-daemon or kill the slmodemd process.

i checked synaptic and i do not have sl-modem-daemon installed.

And I noticed even with the force-reload stuff audio fails after some time, and some times i have to execute the command more than once for it to works.

Also I did a clean copy of ubuntu karmic( not upgraded from 9.04 ), and the problem was present from the beggining. Just thought I should mention

I hope you fix that soon...it is really really annoying to have to use <sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload> again and again everytime i log in or lose my sound until sound is reestablished....

That log isn't very useful; we need the log running when your sound disappears.

How do I run the log when the sound dissapears, if audio never appeared? If what you´re asking is to force reload alsa until i get sound and wait for a rather random secondary issue were the sound dissapears again after appearing with alsa force reload just say

Well, after searching I found which disabling the power down HDA controllers solved most of my problem, althought each session starts with audio muted( i have to increase volume to enable it).

In alsa-base.conf
# Power down HDA controllers after 10 idle seconds
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N

strange, now audio isnt muted at start session anymore. It is using the last audio volume i set in last session as it was expected to do. Now everything is working.

I let this tip to you there. Something is happening with "Power down HDA controllers after 10 idle seconds", check it out

Hi felipemoraes,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 472151

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
