Ubuntu One: Can't Add Computer, Using WicD *not* NetworkManager

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

System: Karmic Fresh Install; Manually Updated 02.11.2009; replaced NetworkManager with WicD before starting to play with Ubuntu One; 1.0.2-0ubuntu2
Expected: Ability to add computer vis-a-vis Ubunto One instructions
Happened: Unable to add computer; opening ubuntuone-client-applet via terminal yields the following

ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

I also have this problem, upgraded from 9.04 and have been using wicd instead of NM since 9.04 due to wireless connection issues and U1 just doesn't work, can't add the computer or connect with it through the applet.
