Bug Description

Binary package hint: freeciv-client-gtk

I'm using vanilla freeciv-client-gtk from the standard repositories. It is version 2.1.9-1 that is available from the repositories. I loaded it using synaptic.

On the research tab it is not possible to click the images to select "research" or "goal". Normally clicking unacquired technologies selects them to be researched.

When quitting the game, and the "Are you sure that you want to quit?" box pops up, neither "No" nor "Yes" does anything. Normally "No" cancels the pop up and, "Yes" confirms the exit of the game.

Most of the clickable objects are, in fact, clickable. These two are the only exceptions that I've noticed.

I had built and installed 2.1.9 with Jaunty, and neither of these problems were present. I don't know if this comes from some misbehaving library or if there is a build issue with freeciv, but I haven't seen seen similar issues with any other application.

I've been unable to reproduce this using Debian stable/testing or the 2.1.10 packages in PPA. Could you please test with 2.1.10 and let us know if this still happens? https://launchpad.net/~kgoetz/+archive/ppa

I just installed freeciv-client-gtk_2.1.10-1~karmic1_amd64.deb

civclient --version
Freeciv version 2.1.10 gui-gtk-2.0

and it is mostly better. I had no problems with research items, and that was the main issue. Thanks.

Quitting still has a problem: it takes forever and I have to use "force quit". I just ran this new version with strace and after I hit quit and confirmed with "yes", strace is spewing out

nanosleep({0, 100000000}, {0, 100000000}) = 0
nanosleep({0, 100000000}, {0, 100000000}) = 0
nanosleep({0, 100000000}, {0, 100000000}) = 0
nanosleep({0, 100000000}, {0, 100000000}) = 0
nanosleep({0, 100000000}, {0, 100000000}) = 0

Although annoying, that isn't as big of a deal because I rarely quit.

Great, thanks for checking.

Are you using a custom sound plugin? You can check under
Game -> Local options -> Sound -> Sound plugin dropdown.

thanks,
kk

Not a problem. I'm glad to do what I can.

Nope, just "stdsounds". I do have issues where sound drops out for a
while, but I've always assumed that is because I'm listening to
streaming radio at the same time.

I've got two settings;
Soundset [stdsounds]
Sound Plugin [none]

Do you have the sound plugin option?

Thanks for checking, it means its probably not pulseaudio induced[1].
The bug may need to be forwarded upstream, I'll check their BTS[2]
tomorrow.
