Bug Description
I have tried loading Ubuntu 9.10 on a Toshiba Satellite A65 S1762 in a partition that was occupied by 9.04 formatting the partition to ext4 to do a clean install. I have tried two copies of the i386 image and neither was successful in installing. At some point there is a failure such as unexpected stop of "Ubiquity", Install.py, or ERMO Input Output Error. I then loaded the same partition with the previous version 9.04, ran update manager, then upgraded to 9.10. All seemed OK until I rebooted and tried to open Synaptic and Terminal and neither would open. I have reinstalled and updated 9.04 and all is running fine on ext4. During this entire process I also tried loading onto an ext3 partition with the same results.
Hi generalghein1,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications- >Accessories- >Terminal) . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.
apport-collect -p linux 471992
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
