I had the same crash I think.

It was nearly finishing installing Karmic when the installer drop to the prompt and after a few second the
live CD started

Eventually I had a message saying ubiquity crashed and here I am :(

This is a very serious bug. The biggest hurdle . Make or break for ubuntu OS. Please rectify this bug and upload ubuntu images on the official website asap. it is a shame that the OS is failing even before it can be installed. I do not understand why the migration assistant automatically kicks in , in this new version. Previously there used to be an option to go ahead with the migration. I dont see that anymore.
Please rectify this bug asap.

by the way, i think i have found a workaround.
Log into the live desktop, open terminal and type

$ ubiquity --no-migration-assistant

This will stop the migration-assitant from kicking in.

Hi,

I try this option and indeed it seems to work better. The installation finishes and it tells me to carry on working on the live CD
or to reboot.

Problem: After the reboot grub is not offering 9.10...only my 9.04 which is on another partition of the disk

I did see just before the end that it was updating grub..

My next stop is to try the alternative CD
