I'd just like to comment and say that I would like to see this bug fixed as well. I'm currently running PostgreSQL 8.4 on Karmic Koala server and would like to use dbi-link without having to install PostgreSQL 8.3.

Regards,

Sam

I changed the control file in the source dbi-link package to reflect a dependency on postgresql 8.4. Attached is the debdiff of the changes I made. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to resolve this issue but the package installed OK with postgresql 8.4 after rebuilding. I will report back if I experience any issues using this changed package with postgresql 8.4.

The current dependency in lucid and maverick is postgresql-plperl-8.4. Unfortunately no-security patches are not included in previous versions of Ubuntu.

Anyway, the patch you submit seems ok. If you want to use one or the other you can write:
Depends: perl(>= 5.8.3), postgresql-plperl-8.3 | postgresql-plperl-8.4, libdbi-perl, libyaml-perl

Thank you for your help in improving Ubuntu.
