Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeutils

I am using Kubuntu 9.10 and kgpg 4.3.2.

When I click on the default installed icon on the K menu, or type "kgpg" into Konsole, the application fails to start.

The K menu entry has "kgpg %U", and when clicked a tab appears in the K bar for a few seconds and then disappears. If I run "ps -e" while the tab is there I do see a kgpg process running until the tab disappears. If I type "kgpg" directly into Konsole, I get no output.

I am able to run kgpg as sudo (but this saves config and key files with root permissions), it gives the following output in the Konsole:

somebody@somewhere:~$ sudo kgpg
[sudo] password for somebody:
Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-somebody" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
Error: "/tmp/kde-somebody" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
QSystemTrayIcon::setVisible: No Icon set

If I change the K menu entry to "kgpg -k" or enter that command directly into Konsole the application runs, but there is no tray icon / menu, just the key manager.

and if I change the K menu entry to "kgpg -k" it works fine.

Not being able to run kgpg effectively eliminates the ability to manage keys using the GUI.

For most users that eliminates the ability to work with GnuPG / PGP at all. So if they have 'upgraded' from a working system, this becomes a complete denial of service for all incoming e-mail encrypted with PGP. It also denies the ability to sign outgoing messages and thus is a complete denial of service for any destinations or activities that required signed messages.

Please at least get it working for the LTS Release 10.04.

Please just show the main window normally for kgpg...

Also, this minimize-on-start nonsense makes it very hard to use kgpg in non-taskbar environments, like ssh -X

Hi there,

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. But don't worry! This issue is being tracked by the KDE developers at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216500
Once fixed in KDE, it will be included in Kubuntu once the KDE version the fix is in in reaches Kubuntu.

Thanks!

Still getting the same bug 6 years later. I have kmail and kgpg installed. Also this is the wrong link, as that's a different bug it seems.

Any idea?
Cheers
