Bug Description

I put the kubuntu 9.10 netbook release current as of 10/31/09 onto a Kensington 1gb USB thumb drive. It booted, memtest and integrity test pass, but it comes up with a blank screen for "try kubuntu without a" and "install kubuntu"

A05 bios version, boot order: usb-media - removable drives- hd

used usb-creator.exe from windows to burn to drive D: -- the Kensington.

If I press esc while the kubuntu loader is up it shows me the initramfs screen, which makes me think that usb-creator is broken, because it probably didn't update the references in the configuration file correctly.

I got a lot of stdin error: 0

Busybox gives an error:
Usage: mount [flags] DEVICE NODE [-o....

can not mount /dev/loop1/ on /cow

I can then get to an (initramfs) prompt

if i dont press esc while the progress screen is up, i get just a blank screen.

This appears to be a bug in usb-creator.exe that was included on the disk. I built the usb drive again under linux using the same file and it worked. (except for another bug that was with the but the broadcom wifi and the restricted drivers )

affects: ubuntu → usb-creator (Ubuntu)
summary: - kubuntu netbook usb install dell mini 9 blank screen
+ usb-creator windows error

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 469255, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
