Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

Thinkpad X31
New installation of Karmic (9.10)
Compiz not installed. No desktop effects are in use.

Occurs after login and when I switch or reconnect to wireless access points. The box appears for ~20 seconds and then disappears. Yelp appears to be the problem, but I a unsure why.

Mike, can you please post the output of "lspci -v" as an attachment to this bug-report. Or tell me what GPU and driver you are using? Your described problem looks very much like a driver-bug with the ati-video-driver for Xorg. Should that be the case you'll be able to work around that, but using the newer acceleration-method EXA, instead of XAA.

For reference - remember I'm just assuming here your machine has an ati GPU and you're victim of this particular bug - see LP: #426582
