Bug Description

Mythbuntu 9.10 (amd64):

MythTV freezes randomly (most of the time) during LiveTV when "edit channel" menu entry is chosen. Channel being viewed still works but no other action is possible, having to kill the process.

Mine is an Asus P3-P5G43 (Intel Core 2 Duo + GMA X4500 graphics) barebone.

Cheers
Antonio

For me it not random.
1. start Live TV
2. change the channel
3. try to change the channel again ( it is stuck on the current channel and you have to kill the frontend )

/boot/ = ext3
/ = ext4

Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu by reporting this issue.

Unfortunately the developers do not have this equipment to reproduce the issue, so we need to ask one or more of you, preferably someone running auto-builds (http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds), to please attach your backend log to this ticket. Logs from more than one person are welcome.

It would be helpful if it was not the whole log, but rather starting from a few entries before changing the channel (full verbose logs from startup can be painful to sort through).

For these logs to be truly useful, they need to have some extra verbose options enabled (-v record, channel, siparser) on the backend command line.

Hi, I think that the problem reported by Jaakan is different than the one reported by Antonio.

On my system I can lock the frontend up with changing channels fast, but this only happens when changing channel before the tuner is locked in on the channel and not when changing channels on the same multiplex.

Haven't got time to look at the logs today, but I'll try to post it later. (New to mythbuntu)

I have the same issue. I am using the Hauppauge WinTV HVR 2250 connected to a digital cable signal & using QAM 256 in the US. built the driver using the source at kernelllabs.com following directions here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7344302&postcount=10

I am using autobuilds (v.22) and updated last night. No other changes to Mythbuntu.

I can reproduce the bug on demand. I run front end and flip through channels - everything works fine. The first time I press "E" to edit the channel, I see the Edit Channel screen show up. I can edit and save or just look & hit OK to exit. I can then continue to change channels, see the menu, program guide etc. But if I press "E" again, the front end hangs. TV show continues on channel that was selected, but no commands work any more. I have to kill the front end.

I can start the front end again, and it works just fine will I repeat the above sequence.

There have been a few times when the Frontend will hang right after the first time I press "E". But the above behaviour is more prevalent.

Logs are at http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/f78e76d29

Thank you.

Thanks you for the logs, CedyAtHome. And thanks to everyone else that did a good job of reporting your hardware.

I have the same problem as CedyAtHome. However, I installed from the ubuntu repos, NOT autobuilds

Upstream update. If anyone can confirm anything in either comments, it might be helpful:

Bob Shanteau mentioned that after changing the Playback Profile group, Edit Channel worked properly. Users wanting to test should probably try the Slim Playback Profile group. Or, try changing just the deinterlacer (from--my guess--bobdeint to something like linear or onefield) and see if that prevents the issue.

someone else also wrote:

Bug only happens if you have browse channels enabled. And it only happens when you edit the channel after chaning from one channel to another.

Upstream is calling this fixed on trunk (pre-0.24), which is available to the adverturesome via auto-builds. First Ubuntu based release that will include this is likely to be 11.04.
