Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

After updating from jaunty to karmic the xorg server does not find the mouse anymore. The kernel does find the Elantech Touchpad / mouse.

I fixed it by executing:

----
#! /bin/bash

main () {
    local i
    for i in $(seq 0 8)
    do
        echo mknod /dev/input/event$i c 13 $(( 64 + $i))
    done
}

main
----

PS: It's my first bug report. I hope that ubuntu-bug has upload its collected data correctly.

After my update yesterday the Elantech touchpad mouse is dead in Ubuntu. Even my solution above does not help anymore. It happens in Linux 2.6.31-14-generic #48 as bad as in 2.6.31-15 generic.

Even on a terminal (while X11 is down) I cannot get any input from it. E.g.
cd /dev/input
cat -v event1
cat -v event2
...

shows nothing.

I'll attach dmesg, lshal, lspci -vvn, xinput list. If you need more information, please ask.

The problem was the same with Windows. After some reboots the touchpad works again, while I don't know why.

Therefore, I still appreciate hints.
