7.1 Surround profile not available in pavucontrol

This is because usually Realtek chips supports to be used un 6ch o 8ch mode and this is controlled by alsa and it's not implemented in PulseAudio. As you have Karmic you need to go to console and execute:
# alsamixer
Then you have to scroll to the Channel Mode Switch going all to the right, and when you are on it press up to set the 8 channel mode instead 6 channel.
Now press escape to exit from alsamixer and, you now need to restart PulseAudio, because it needs to detect the new mode. To accomplish this execute in the same terminal:
# pulseaudio -k
PulseAudio will be correctly killed and because system's default config will be re-spawned.
Now you should have the possibility to select 7.1 options in the profile.
