Bug Description

Release: Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala i386 Desktop

What happened:

A fresh install not only had the error that is documented online with grub2 where the "failed to load devices" error comes up, but during installation and after booting into system, all of the titlebars are completely screwed up. The graphics appear as crazy vertical lines. It happens with the "Run" dialog when pressing ALT+F2 as well. And the application launcher is completely screwed up as well. I have attached screenshots showing what it looks like.

This is a brand new install (installed it twice in fact and received same exact errors both times -- have verified the integrity of the disc and the download both). The machine is a Thinkpad T41 with discrete graphics (ATI Radeon Mobility card).

I've re-checked the ISO with md5 and I've re-checked the disc integrity. Still says there are no errors. I ran it from the disc itself "without making any changes to my computer" and it still shows the goofy vertical lines on all taskbars, titlebars, application launcher, etc.

It is a problem with this laptop only (Thinkpad T41). I tried the same exact CD on another laptop (a Dell Inspiron 2200 -- Intel 915GM Graphics) and it ran perfectly.
