Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

i have upgraded from jaunty to karmic.
i've had the font rendering of ubuntu set to "best shapes".
after the upgrade, the new firefox 3.5.3 shows blurry fonts - everything else is fine.
i guess some other type of font rendering is in use there?
also, when changing the font rendering, firefox seems unaffected from any changes, while everything else around firefox changes the font rendering according to the settings.

I can confirm that the firefox-3.5 package for Karmic has weird font rendering. On a lot of pages, the font is simply too small or is not rendering properly. It seems that fonts that should be rendered as Times New Roman or Arial are being replaced by another font for some reason. I have attached some screenshots to this comment.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (32-bit) using Ubuntu kernel 2.6.31-14-generic. I already have the MS fonts installed. Even with all add-ons disabled, the fonts still don't render correctly.

Hephaestus Malleus : We're probably not talking about the same bug.

I have added two screenshots to demonstrate my bug report. On the left you'll see the fonts rendered with "monochrome" setting. on the right with "best shapes" setting. but firefox is unaffected of these settings, while others aren't.

I have solved this problem by running the sharpfonts script from http://www.sharpfonts.com/ and renaming /etc/fonts/local.conf to /etc/fonts/local.backup.conf
Now all fonts are rendered properly in firefox, openoffice, screenlets,...

My 9.10 is a clean install.
