Bug Description

Volumes created with TrueCrypt will crash Ubuntu with Kernel Panic or freezes Nautilus when copying files to the TrueCrypt volume. In Ubuntu 9.04 there are no problems but Ubuntu 9.10 crashes. It's even impossible in Ubuntu 9.10 to repair TC volumes formatted in ext3 with the TC GUI.
TrueCrypt 6.3 used.

Same here. Used to work with jaunty, but freezes the whole OS with karmic.
Seems like big files cause it more often than small files.
Updated truecrypt from 6.2 to 6.3, but didn't change anything.

I run into this error as well. Using none kernel encryption solves the issue. If i use kernel crypto, and do not mount then i can access the disk without problems (I can run fsck.reiserfs). Mounting also works fine, however the system chashes when I try to access a file

The last updates fixed mostly all kernel problems for me. Only the bug in Gnome/ Nautilus is still there and freezes sometimes Nautilus itself and all applications which try to access the encrypted media.

Hi Michael,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 463665

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeremy,

thanks for your reply and yes this bug is still an issue. I have downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 RC and installed it, installed also "linux-image-2.6.34-020634rc5-generic_2.6.34-020634rc5_i386.deb" and TrueCrypt 6.3a, rebooted the computer.

Forced a fsck on the mapped drive -> ok
Extract a bigger rar-file -> Kernel Panic

After a hard reset I have typed "apport-collect -p linux 463665" in a Terminal, I hope that the bug is reproducible.
