Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.31
This happens on a Toshiba Satellite A300 notebook with Kubuntu 9.10 RC.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot Kubuntu with the AC adapter plugged in. The power manager's state is on AC power.
2. Detach the AC adapter.
Expected: The power manager should recognize the notebook is running on battery power.
Actual: Nothing happens, the power manager will still indicate you're running on AC power.
The odd part is that if I suspend/resume (which works fine), the problem doesn't reproduce anymore, that is until I reboot.
The close lid action works in the same way: closing the laptop lid doesn't suspend the PC, but after doing a suspend/resume this works too.
While running acpi_listen there were no events when plugging/unplugging the AC adapter or closing the lid before suspend/resume.
The lid problem happened on 9.04 also, but the AC adapter one only on 9.10.
Also tried it out on Ubuntu 9.10 with the same results.
The following gives the accurate power state ( before and after suspend/resume ):
cat /proc/acpi/
