Panel resolution not detected

PowerBook G4 (M5884), Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live CDs (probably edubuntu too)

Resolution is not correctly detected and configured, it should be 1152x7682, but instead is 1024x768 which means the screen has a black bar down the right hand side.

is there a way for xresprobe to gather these info reliably given that your panel does not return them at all?

I'm not convinced this is a panel problem, because everything else works just fine -- the console, vga16fb, MacOS X, etc. all fill the screen normally.
