Bug Description
Binary package hint: btnx
Hi, I wanted something to configure my extra mouse buttons.
Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center
Search for "Mouse button"
btnx looked interesting, so I installed it.
Applications -> System Tools -> btnx -> Error Dialog:
Error: no keycode file
btnx-config needs the file /etc/btnx/events to run. Make sure you have installed btnx first, and that the file exists.
At their website: http://
$ sudo aptitude install btnx
Setting up btnx (0.4.11-2ubuntu1) ...
Starting btnx : Button Extension - mouse button rerouter daemon
btnx: uinput modprobed successfully.
btnx: Could not read the config manager file: No such file or directory
Segmentation fault
btnx failed to start (error code 139) - try btnx-config
Application -> System Tools -> btnx
This tool isn't n00b friendly, but I got it to work. Crazy confusing detection steps. Had to restart server to save new keys.
Got it to work though. How Ubuntu got it's buttons back :-)
At a minimum, a packaging and dependency error.

Same "btnx-config needs the file /etc/btnx/events to run" here with Ubuntu 10.10 Beta.
