Bug Description

Binary package hint: plasma-netbook

I'm very familiar with Ubuntu, but not so much Kubuntu. Cannot connect to my wireless network using the latest 9.10 install (netbook).

I have one ubuntu laptop (jaunty) and one windows vista computer, and one iPhone, one Wii - all connected to the network.

Any help?

This isn't a netbook specific problem. I don't have a hidden ssid to test with, but wpa works when it's not hidden.

So Kubuntu does not work with Hidden SSIDs?

I'm not sure. I do know that there's no difference in Netbook that would
cause it. I'll check into it once I'm back at a computer.

Kewl - I'm trying a package update as well as I only installed in the ISO - nothing additional. May open a separate bug - tried the firefox install but it just says all the packages are already installed - very odd.

over a hundred updates and counting - glad I"m hardwired in - trying those - I'm on an under powered eeepc but like the new KDE interface - I have successfully run Jolicloud, Easypeasy, Xubuntu and UNBR all on it (with the addition of an SD card and creative partitioning.

KDE install was fine - just wireless misbehaving.

Installing network-manager-gnome should be a reasonable work around.

It's not a good workaround when running the live CD :-(

It will work if you have a wired conection for setup, but yes, you can't
get wireless network to a hidden ssid wirhout some way to install
additional packages.

Considering kubuntu 9.04 had this same bug, I consider this a shame. I can't accept any kind of workaround. If you are so serious about that stupid workaround, then be coherent. Kubuntu should install gnome network manager by default. Instead no they don't.

Now if one is a newbie, how on earth could you explain to him why in year 2009, his fresh new operating system can't connect to a wireless. Are we serious? Is canonical serious? Is the kubuntu team serious?

Now when someone makes fun of Microsoft saying they never fix bugs or fix them with big delays, I'll be sure to tell them Ubuntu and Canonical are the same.

A shame.
