Bug Description

HP Pavilion tx2500 CTO notebook/tablet system with fresh Karmic RC installation, all available updates applied. Available restricted drivers in use. During boot, session start and odd other times there will be a 'pop' from the speakers, similar to what I'm used to when this machine goes to sleep, but louder. Often followed by a pause and another pop. Also occurs when Amarok starts, stops.

Need to change this one, the audio actually does work. The popping is still occurring, but the lack of audio is coming from the mute kicking in by itself at the beginning of the session. Mute state in the software volume control does not consistently match the state of the mute light on the hardware volume control.

I am having a very similar problem. I am getting seeming regular pops happening, usually quiet then loud; the pattern repeats. While I am running amarok, the clicks/pops seem to stop, that was until I noticed that my music is actually skipping at about the same interval as the pops.

Same problem. "Pop!" from speakers every 10 seconds or so, whether it's muted, external headphones plugged in, regardless of volume. VERY annoying.

Observation: Above the keyboard are touch-sensitive buttons, and the mute button turns orange. When the "Pop!" happens, the orange, muted button flashes blue, as though un-muted, "Pop!", then back to orange.

HP Pavillion dv6500, upgraded from jaunty to koala. (Made into a dual-boot machine after I realized Vista was actually VD (Vista Diseased.))

I've found some other posts relating to this, and will research some more before disabling anything.

I know this is an unsophisticated report, I'm new to Ubuntu bug reporting.
