Does installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic and rebooting resolve the symptom?

I have an acer aspire 5930g, after a clean install of Karmic 64bit the sound works perfectly except the tuba bass. The problem is that alsa picks the option model=acer-aspire-4930g by default for this laptop, whereas I found that model=acer-aspire-6530g fits much better. With the latter option everything works, including the tuba bass, and all the built-in speakers get muted automatically upon headphones plug-in. Also the sound quality is very good.

From the changelog between alsa 1.0.20 to 1.0.21 (in Karmic backports) we can read: " - ALSA: hda - Use model=acer-aspire-6530g for Acer Aspire 6930 For Acer Aspire 6930G (1025:015e), acre-aspire-6530g model matches obviously better" .

I believe also 5930g should be moved over like 6930g.

The only thing I'm not 100% positive about is the built-in mic, I've had no time to play with settings and volumes yet and for now it seems to only produce noise for me; if I manage to get it to work I definitely write to the alsa developers to suggest the move of the 5930g from 4930g settings to 6530g.

I tested everything, with the option acer-aspire-6530g the sound works 100% in this laptop. The originator probably had an upgrade problem, because even with the default option it works 80%. So the real bug is the wrong default option. I attach the output of alsa-info from my working 5930g.?field.comment=I tested everything, with the option acer-aspire-6530g the sound works 100% in this laptop. I don't agree with you all. Option model=acer-aspire-4930g is good. The only thing that doesn't work is muting subwoofer which i fixed already. I will post fix officially when I clone alsa-kernel repository.

Note that after setting option to acer-aspire-6530g you won't be able to get sliders for 5.1 speakers and microphone doesn't work.
