Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

software-store currently doesn't display informations about licences . While there is an effort to make license information machine parsable: http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep5/ it is not in the downloaded package list so it can be displayed by the software center.

The latest software center will show if it is an open source license or not. Is this valuable enough?

I have to agree with this. If a package has a copyright file that matches DEP5 formatting, it should be fairly trivial to extract the short license keys included and place them in a License: header for display in software selection tools like apt-cache show and software center. This would not significantly raise the size of the list, but would significantly improve the quality of software center for users (and could be used to improve awareness of open source licenses in general).

Given that, marking this as Confirmed, and setting Importance to Wishlist.

If you want something on the server, don't file bugs against the client. That's not going to work.
