Bug Description

9.10 rc live CD (like 9.10 beta) takes a long time to boot. (7-8 mins.)
When disabling splash lots of errors like

[ 17.881305] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Unhandled sense code
[ 17.881326] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
[ 17.881348] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current]
[ 17.881374] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error
[ 17.881400] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1407624
[ 17.881420] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 351906
[ 17.881440] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 351907

are displayed. Disk integrity check reports disk is intact. This problem shows on Intel Atom board D945GSEJT.

It makes however no difference if the CD-drive is connected by SATA, IDE or USB. I've also tried three CD-drives, all with the same result.

Once started, everything seems to be running fine.

I got EXACTLY same problem on Lucid Live CD 10.04, which starts to worry me, because my Karmic install was smooth and without such problems. CD-ROM drive is ok, I tried two different CD-RWs - the same problem.

Hi karlkiste,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 461815

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Ubuntu 10.04-beta1 boots within less than three minutes, without that lot of error messages. Looks like the issue is solved for me. Thank you!
