Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description of Problem:
On a default installation, Nautilus tries to open a PSD (Photoshop Document) file with "Image Viewer" (Eye of GNOME). Unfortunately, Image Viewer does not support PSD.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Get a PSD file. Alternatively, you can create a new one with The GIMP.
2. Open a file browser window and go to the folder with the PSD file.
3. Double-click on the PSD file.

Actual Results:
The wait cursor shows up for about 15 seconds, then nothing happens.

Expected Results:
The file should be open by an application supporting the PSD format, like The GIMP.

How often does this happen?
Always.

Additional Information:
This issue is easily fixed by going in the Properties of a PSD file, then setting the right application in the "Open With" tab.

That said, the user should not have to correct the association manually on his shiny, new installation of Ubuntu. The default file association for PSD should be The GIMP.

Thanks for your bug. That happens because /usr/share/applications/eog.desktop lists "image/x-psd" to the MimeType= list, either eog is supposed to open that format or the .desktop should not list it, in any case that's an eog bug, reassigning. I've forwarded the issue upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343052

fixed upstream, they dropped that mimetype from the desktop file list

Fixed with those uploads to dapper-updates:

 eog (2.14.3-0ubuntu2) dapper-updates; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/90_from_cvs_dont_open_psd.patch:
     - patch from CVS, don't list "image/x-psd" mimetype since eog doesn't open
       that format (Ubuntu: #46179)

 desktop-file-utils (0.10-1ubuntu14) dapper-updates; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/defaults.list:
     - set gimp as default application for "image/x-psd" (Ubuntu: #46179)

Thanks for fixing such a trivial bug, but those packages don't seem available in dapper-updates yet.

Did I missed something?

do you have the versions of the packages mentionned by the previous comment? maybe one of them is still waiting to be accepted, upload to dapper-updates are moderated

Ah! I thought it passed moderation, since the fix came out at the beginning of the month. I am not aware of the policies for updates.

I'll confirm the correction of the bug once the fixed packages are hitting the repos.

I rejected this old upload, since it hasn't gone through the usual SRU process, and TBH this bug does not really warrant an SRU. But if you think it is appropriate, please start the SRU process.

This bug also exists in Ubuntu 7.10.

Double click on a .psd opens unsuccessfully in eog.

Also right clicking shows the default action as open with Image viewer (eog) which obviously fails again.
