Bug Description

As in moblin 2.0 and moblin 2.1, 3G connection is unavailable in Ubuntu Moblin Remix. My USB modem (Huawei E1553) is recognized as modem at ttyS (from dmesg command) and USB drive, but no interface to either set the modem nor connect to internet.

hylman, so this is an upstream bug. when moblin 2.1 development is completed this bug will be fixed in original moblin. but UMR is one time release so i think *i think this won't be fixed in UMR

It's a pity that UMR as one off release is considered final release (or about to be) when 3G is not supported. Why can't ubuntu use network manager as in UNR or karmic instead of connman, knowing that connman is still under heavy development, i.e.: not supporting 3G yet? For example, Goblin and Fedora Moblin both support 3G, by not using connman (cmiiw)

Moblin release date is actually not very good for Karmic because we've passed all the freeze and check points.

However, in next release of Ubuntu Lucid, there will be a new UMR Lucid which will much better in 3G support. Just not in UMR Karmic.

For those who are interested in this, we'll have another PPA which will established soon for solving this issue.

@om26er: hey... no need to be "sarcasm" here... relax... I'm not a programmer nor IT person either. All I know that Opensuse (and may be Fedora) adopt Moblin for their remix just like Ubuntu with UMR. However, somehow they manage to get 3G working in their Moblin version, namely: Goblin or Fedora Moblin. I suspect this is because they do not use connman. As you and I originally thought (well, Canonical included), UMR was supposedly to be a one off release, and I believe my disappointment was justified. .... well, at least Ying just confirm that there'll be UMR for 10.04, which is great.

@Ying: thanks for the update. I think I'll wait for Lucid UMR. In the mean time, just stick with my moblin 2.0.

Thak you all for your input into making this a better product. Please try to understand that this Karmic release is a developer's release only, and not a "final" product by any means. Also, we install connman to maintain Moblin Compliance as much as possible. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UMR for more information on this.

Again, thank you for your continued testing and bug reporting.
