Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Hi

On the last ubiquity screen before actual installation, in the Advanced... dialog, one can't select on which device to install the grub bootloader. The default is "(hd0)" but if one clicks the dropdown, it's not offered in the list of choices. Choices are:
/dev/sda /dev/sda
/dev/sda1 /dev/sda1

It looks like the intent was to show grub style devices along classic device names, so either this doesn't work or '(hd0)' should be offered in the list.

Bye

I have also had this problem. I experimented with installing ubuntu to a flash drive and when I rebooted the flash drive didn't work and neither did my laptop.

The default option was for hd0. At the very least this should be more clear then having to click on some obscure "Advanced" button on the page after selecting the partitions. Also, when you tell ubuntu to manage the partition information for you and use the whole drive it should be smart enough to decide that is the device you want to boot from.

This is a great way for people to mess up their grub information.

Loïc, can you check if it happens with the latest Lucid builds?
