I noticed that mixxx appears to draw the window right as it crashes.

I also have the Hercules DJ Console MK2. I have tried it attached and detached.
AFAIK I have compiz disabled. (Desktop effects set to none)

same here on 2.6.31-4 dev version of puredyne (https://launchpad.net/puredyne-live)

for info, i've got :
00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: ALi Corporation M5451 PCI AC-Link Controller Audio Device (rev 02)
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M9+ 5C61 [Radeon Mobility 9200 (AGP)] (rev 01)

it works perfectly on Jaunty install (both deb from mixxx.org and ubuntu package)

This is an ATI Video Driver + OpenGL problem, refer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stellarium/+bug/447694/comments/5 for a possible workaround.

this doesn't work for me,
I'm now currently running a fresh karmic (upgraded from jaunty) and I get the same error... :/

I retried and actually it works using this temp fix :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stellarium/+bug/447694/comments/5
problem seems to be my ATI 9200 radeon video card.
